Heritage cycling route through the earthquake zone

In June 2025, the exploratory session “Story-Driven Cycling Routes through the Earthquake Zone” took place at the Village Hall of Garmerwolde. The session was organized by Utrecht University, the Landschapswerkplaats, and the Toukomst initiatives EPIQ (an interactive museum in development on soil, gas, and earthquakes) and Vergroenen Gaslocaties (EN: Greening of Gas Sites: a village collective from Thesinge with a project exploring how gas sites can be greened and preserved as places of remembrance). About twenty-five people accepted the invitation to contribute their ideas. They represented organisations such as Gasberaad, Sense of Place, Eyewitnesses of Gas Extraction, NPG, Field Atlas (Cooperative Strong Museums), Route Bureau Groningen, Tocht om de Noord, Minerva, Fraeylemaborg, the Province, the Platform for Churches and Earthquakes, and various landowners. The Groninger Dorpen Foundation provided a concluding reflection. PITCH has produced a report documenting the participatory mapping session.
